Humanities
Spring 2015
The purpose of this course is to help students understand the importance of communication. It also teaches the concept that different societies and cultures utilize communication differently. We used the things we learned to look inward and find areas where we can improve our own methods of communicating with others. I took a lot away from this class. I thoroughly enjoyed being in class and doing the various assignments we were given.
The first major assignment for this class was to interview someone in a career field we are interested in. I decided to interview a Physician's Assistant that works with an Orthopedic Surgeon at Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Even though I am not majoring in healthcare, it is still something I have an interest in.
The most important assignment was to chose an aspect of communication that we can improve in our own lives.
The last two weeks of class, we were put into teams for the final assignment. Each team was given a scenario in which communication is necessary to solve a problem. Once the project was completed, we were asked to write a short essay about the experience.
