The purpose of this class is to understand how diversity is portrayed in film today and how it affects our culture. Film also tends to reflect society’s views. The class really did help me understand that people who are different shouldn’t be looked down upon. We are all human.
For the mid-term assignment my class was asked to write a reflective essay on one of the films we watched together as a class. I chose to use two films for my assignment- “Murderball” and “Temple Grandin”. These two films deal with the conflict of disability, both physical and mental. I discussed various stereotypes our society has surrounding individuals with disabilities. Using examples from both films I demonstrated how these stereotypes were overcome by the characters.

The final essay required us to analyze a social issue present in films and television. Something we were asked to look at were stereotypes that arise in films concerning the issue. I decided to look at the way witchcraft has been portrayed in film through the years.
