General Education
Fall 2014
The professor for this course decided to use a non traditional approach in teaching. Class was structured in a pedagogical format that helped promoted creative thinking. In hindsight, this class offered very little in the writing aspect. There was a higher emphasis on art and creativity than effective writing. Though it did help me to think in a broader sense and to consider the world beyond what we see and understand.
There were only three required essays for the course.
The first essay assignment was a personal narrative retelling an event from our life that affected us in some way. I chose a story from my childhood involving a friendship I lost.

The second essay was a literary review of a collection of works discussing the current state of education in America. We read the works and summarized how the works were connected or how they offered opposing views on the subject.
The final essay in the class was a problem solution essay. The purpose was to bring attention to a current social issue or to offer a solution to an already well known issue. I chose to focus on gender inequality in the film industry. It is an issue that is slowly gaining attention, but there is still much to be done to resolve it.
